FIGHTING CORRUPTION and ESTABLISHING A LAWFUL SOCIETY STARTS FROM THE TOP...Monday Midnite

In every country in the world (and I've been around many) you're going to find more corruptible elements than decent and law abiding ones. Everyone of us are two sides of the same coin. Depending on one's sound moral/spiritual upbringing (not religion) coupled with one's personal strength of character, one side of the coin will always get the better of the other side. That's why an effectively sound and equitable rule of law is of prominent importance to keep us collectively in check as a society. What makes the United States and many other nations in the world much less corrupt than our country is the stringent laws put in place in those countries against ALL CRIMES, and even more importantly, the mostly unbiased and uncompromising enforcement of all the laws irrespective of who is at the receiving end of it. ............................................................................................................................................................................Wherever there's overblown and overexposed unfairness in the implementations of the established laws of any nation...especially where it favors members of the upper echelon with resources to buy justice and heap injustice on whomever crosses their paths as is the case with Nigeria...em..sorry...Afghangeria, then the wild, wild, west-like rule of law becomes the norms in such a society. .............................................................................................................................................................................Most folks are corrupt in Nigeria simply because they know they can get away with it due to the weak and lackadaisical tone set in fighting against corruption by those in leadership positions whose responsibility it is to enforce our laws fairly and squarely across the board. ........................................................................................Remember when Murtala Mohammed came in and set an uncompromising tone against corruption and dereliction of duty? At first people thought he was just fooling around. But by the time he terminated the appointments of some Federal Govt big wigs with immediate effect for only arriving late at their desks, the whole nation automatically got the message and promptly fell in line. The Buhari/Idiagbon regime employed the same template. In retrospect, those were the only two regimes that were able to bring corruption down to feet water level in the history of our country. ...........................................................................................................................................................................So, while it's the moral responsibility of every individual adult to always look in the mirror and keep their vices in check to become better people in their societies, the onus is absolutely on the leaders of any nation to uncompromisingly set the tone of absolute fairness in the enforcement of the established rules of laws of the land across the spectrum without favoritism. Wherever such equitable blueprint is squarely in place, it naturally encourages the good side of everyone's coin to effortlessly show up in our societal dealings. That's why many of us "Afghangerians" in the diaspora, save for a minuscule numbers committing 419 and other crimes, mostly obeys the laws of our adopted countries to the letter. ...........................................................................................................................................................................And just like no parts of our body can biologically move or do anything without getting signals from our heads, so must the defining narrative against corruption and the implementation of it by clear and noticeable examples come from the top of our leadership ladder. If it comes by example from the top, the bottom will most definitely follow suit. If you doubt this, then allow your children to set and implement the operational laws of your own household for a month and record the result. Or better yet, purposely set some bad examples in front of your children for a week and then observe them the following week. You will be shocked out of your pants as to how fast your normally very decent children will copy, imbibe and foment your established bad precedence. ............................................................................................................................................................................That's why responsible parents must rule their households by examples and morally culture their children fairly and squarely or there will be hellish chaos in the house. What we expect of ourselves as leaders of our households is the exact same thing society must collectively expect from our leaders.....RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP. Nothing facilitates the smooth running of any household or any society better than RL. So no doubt about it folks. It starts from the top at home, it must start from the top in our society. ............................................................................................................................................................................ A wise man once told me: " Give me a good head with a rundown, terrible looking and washed out body, and I'll definitely still be able to productively function with A+ excellence. But give me an empty basket of a head on a sculptured body like young Arnold Schwarzenegger's, and my potential would be C- at best." I couldn't agree more.
